Privacy policy
Effective September 25, 2026
ThreadKin is a private journal. This policy says what we collect, why, who helps us run the service, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Your account: your phone number, used to sign you in with a one-time code, and an email address if you sign up with one.
- What you put in your journal: the entries you write, speak or text, and the photos and videos you choose to import. Spoken audio is transcribed and the audio is not kept.
- What ThreadKin derives from your entries: the moments, themes and feelings read from your own words, used to organize your journal for you.
- Location, only if you turn it on: where an entry was written, and where imported photos were taken.
- Your device: a notification token, if you allow notifications.
- The waitlist: if you join before your spot opens, your phone number and which ad brought you there, kept only to text you when your spot opens and to connect it to your account when you sign up.
How we use it
To run your journal: to save it, search it, read it back to you and notify you about things that happened in it. We do not use your journal for advertising, and we do not sell personal information.
ThreadKin never uses facial recognition. Photos are read for what happens in them, never for who is in them.
Crossings and kinship — only if you opt in
Comparing your journal with other people's is off by default. If you turn it on, your moments are compared anonymously: another person sees only the moment that crossed theirs and a sentence about what you share, never your name, your number or the rest of your journal. You can turn it off at any time and it stops at once. Kinship is a separate choice that both people must make; only then can kin read each other's journals.
Text messages
If you turn on Journal by text, the texts you send from your own number are saved to your journal and deleted from our messaging provider once saved. Mobile numbers and text-message consent are not shared with, or sold to, third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Reply STOP to opt out at any time. Details: Text messages.
Who helps us run ThreadKin
We use a small number of service providers, only to operate the service: hosting and databases (Fly.io), file storage (Cloudflare), sign-in codes and text messages (Twilio), push notifications (Expo), and AI processing (OpenAI), which reads your entries, transcribes what you speak and describes imported photos and video to find their moments and themes. They process data on our behalf and not for their own purposes.
Keeping and deleting
Your journal is kept until you delete it. Deleting an entry removes it and what was derived from it. Deleting your account from Settings removes your account and everything in it.
Children
ThreadKin is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, we will update the date above and tell you in the app when the change matters. Questions: write to cjmscorpio@hotmail.com.
